Hardware

Mr. Hechler is a very knowledgeable in the areas of computer hardware. I worked at CompUSA for eight months so I have an alright base of knowledge of computer hardware but nothing in comparison to Mr. Hechler. One thing the taught me that I didn't know is that laptops with wireless have an antenna  that goes all around the exterior of the laptop.  That is a fairly ingenious idea by the computer engineers.  I have always thought about building my own computer, but in the past years technology has advanced so much that for a computer that meets my needs it is much cheaper to buy from a large company. Mr. Hechler also thought it was a good idea to buy insurance or guarantees on computers. I disagree with him in this regard because I know that companies make a lot of profit from selling warrantees. They about a seventy percent profit margin on them. But it can't be denied that if your computer does fail, it will save you a lot of money.

Powerpoint

Top five Powerpoint tips.
1. Do NOT read off Powerpoint slides.
2. Do not put to much writing on any slide.
3. You should be able to present even if your Powerpoint fails.
4. Do not use animation to the point that it distracts the audience.
5. Be simple yet elegant.

I want to shoot people that read off their slides. I think that a great presenter does not even need a Powerpoint, think of a presidential speech with a Powerpoint, it would be corny. I think the best Powerpoint presentations are only pictures and graphs.  The speakers should be able to do the rest.

Viable Internet Sources

Chris Nolan made an interesting and accurate presentation about finding sources online, and judging thier credibility. While the internet will never be as safe as the local library, he showed that their are things users can do to protect themselves. The most interesting thing he showed was how to add simple commands into Google to produce more specific and possible better results. It is also interesting that the general population has moved from the Yahoo Search engine to Google. Google in general is in my personal opinion the smartest and best technology company around. They sell information, and most of that they don't even own. The only thing that they need to do thier work is a lot of good programers, and some computer equipment, they have very low costs for what they are making.

Intellectual Property Laws

Intellectual Propery Laws are a very current and interesting subject. While the laws of this subject are still being changed and perfected internationally, the basic idea stays the same. In "They stole an image of my son and just had to pay $4000" by Eirik Solheim, an electronics company used an image of his son in thier advertisement. This was a fairly straightforward case of stealing, as the company was using it in an advertisement. They also did not site the sorce of the picture. This is not a US case and it was solved out of court, the company paying Solheim $4000. While most cases are never paid for or even brought up, this was a special occation where the owner of the photo not only noticed his picture was being used, but also knew a lot about internation copyright and intellectual property laws. He had the money and connections to cause the company a problem, so they paid him off.
In my personal opinion he really didn't prove anything. He got a little money from his image, but besides that didn't really prove anything. If he had wanted to make a statement about intellectual property laws he should have brought the case to trial instead of just being bought out and writing a badly title artical that was only published online.

My Computer Experience

I am not a computer expert by any means but in general I can get done what I need to get done. In more simple words when I do what I do...I do it. I can very successfully get access to the Trinity network as well as my Y drive, the computer classes drives and website. I have an apple macbook which uses the operating system OSX. I also know how to use Microsoft 98, ME, XP, and Vista. My computer has Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.
I once use the magic of the internet and blogging to communicate with my friends and family while I was abroad in the Dominican Republic. I hope one day that everyone has a computer and the internet because it would be awesome for communication internationally. I use computers for homework, facebook, and chatting among other things. I also enjoy having a large selection of music to listen to and use the apple program Itunes to do it.
My computer experience is different then most because I sold computers at CompUSA in high school. I sold all kinds of computers including Mac and PC. This gives me an advantage because to be able to sell computers and software you have to know them in and out.

Experience With Microsoft Word

I have used Microsoft Word since I first had to write an acedemic paper in sixth grade. I have very little experience with the most recent version, 2007. It is a good program and I am hoping to learn more about its ability to interface with the other Microsoft Office programs because the older version did not do that very well. If all goes well I will soon be a master of all the office programs.

First Entry and Introduction

Hello Fellow web users,

I am David Gangwish, a Freshman at Trinity University in San Antonio. I origenally hail from the great city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have been living in the 505 since I was nothing but a young lad, and before heading off to college in San Antonio, I only spent one year away from Albuquerque. I spent my junior year of high school abroad with the international exchange program AFS in Santo Dominigo, Republica Dominicana.

I do not know what I am going to study but am looking into the humanities such as political science and English. I plan on minoring in spanish and photography, two of my many passions. I also enjoy anything and everything to do with the outdoors. I am an avid camper, kayaker, rafter, snowboarder, and hiker. I also played baseball in high school and still enjoy playing baseball recreationally.
